King Pro Boxing SGL7 versus standard shin guards

The main difference lies in the double padding and professional finish level. Where standard shin guards often have a single layer of foam, the SGL7 offers a double layer that absorbs impacts better. The combination of sturdy velcro closures with buckle ensures these shin guards stay in place during intensive sparring, while simpler models can shift. The synthetic leather is more durable than the standard PU coating on entry-level models, and the handmade finish from Thailand guarantees consistent quality. For recreational kickboxers a standard model may be sufficient, but for serious athletes who spar regularly the extra investment in double protection and better fit is worth it.

Frequently asked questions

What size King Pro Boxing SGL7 shin guards do I need?

Measure your shin from knee to ankle and compare this with the manufacturer's size chart. Sizes S, M, L and XL are available, with the size depending on your shin length, not your clothing size. Note: measure the length of your own leg, not the dimensions of the product. If you're unsure between two sizes, it's wise to factor in your height and weight in your choice.

Are these shin guards suitable for beginners in kickboxing?

The King Pro Boxing SGL7 is specifically developed for advanced and experienced kickboxers. As a beginner you'd be better off starting with a model that offers a bit more comfort. These shin guards are lightweight with double padding for optimal protection during intensive sparring, which is especially important if you've already developed technique and strength. For your first months of kickboxing an entry-level model is often more practical.

How is the fit of the King SGL7 shin guards?

The shin guards have sturdy hook & loop velcro closures with buckle, so they stay extremely secure during kicking. The fit depends heavily on your shin length and circumference. Always check the size chart and carefully measure your shin from knee to ankle. The closures offer plenty of adjustment options, but the basic length of the shin guards must fit your leg.

What is the difference between synthetic leather and genuine leather in shin guards?

These King Pro Boxing shin guards are made from high-quality synthetic leather, which is more durable and requires less maintenance than genuine leather. Synthetic leather is resistant to sweat and moisture, dries faster and retains its shape longer. The material offers comparable protection to genuine leather but at a better price-to-quality ratio. For intensive use in kickboxing this is an excellent choice.

Can I also use these shin guards for Muay Thai?

Yes, the King Pro Boxing SGL7 shin guards are excellent for Muay Thai. They are handmade in Thailand, the home of Muay Thai, and offer the double padding and superior protection you need for low kicks and shin blocks. The sturdy velcro with buckle ensures they stay secure during clinch work. Just make sure you choose the right size for optimal protection.

How do I maintain my King Pro Boxing shin guards?

Wipe the shin guards after each training session with a damp cloth to remove sweat and bacteria. Let them dry completely in a ventilated area, not in direct sunlight or on a radiator. The synthetic leather doesn't need special conditioner like genuine leather. Regularly check the velcro closures and buckle for wear. With proper care these handmade shin guards will last for years.
